I'm sorry what?

When I first becoming annoyed with see more people then me around me not speaking English or French I kept it very much to myself. After all this is Canada and this is Toronto “the most diverse city in the world”. But the more I talk to close friends about this issue I realize I'm not the only one who shares my thoughts.

I’m not a racist person at all. I myself would not be here today if it were not for immigration. But here is my thing, it seems more and more it is becoming ok not to learn the one or both of the official languages of this country. You get on a bus and a passenger is screaming at the top of their lungs cause they want to get off but cant read “Step on step to open doors” You get into a cab and the guy doesn’t even know major steet names and his yapping on his cell looking at you in the mirror giving you the feeling he is talking about you.

When I had a friend visit from Vancouver island I thought it would be cool to check out china town and little India. What we found was a little upsetting, shop keepers with no English, stores with only Arabic signs or Cantonese . How is this fair to the rest of the people in this city? Should be not have a right to know what stores are on our public streets?

In far to many cases EMS Fire and police have to struggle with emergencies involving people who know very little to no English or French. Immagrating to this country you have to know at least one of 0ur official dialects. (unless your sponsored in which case the points shift around and u can sneak by)

However as a refugee claimant, due to the nature of the matter you will almost always get in. Once in if you move to a city like Toronto, Markham, Vancouver you will almost certintly find a community of your own kind . and at that point why bother learning? The Government has already insured your health care is fully covered and your on the list of affordable housing. Which may I add as a final point takes priority over all ther applicants for affordable housing.

The government had ESL programs in place and intergration programs. But it is voulentery so few take advantage of it. I believe it should be a requirement, It is nessecery to inure public safty and for the future success of new arrivals. Instead of them surving off government handouts.

There are allot of people who will think I'm a horrible person for this, but as we stand now things are getting out of control.
